The next
part of assembling the piece requires forming the spacers that will fit between the arm and the flag in all the odd spots. This can take a quite a while as the parts are convoluted and need to mate with several surfaces. They have to be made with the order of assembly in mind. In fact all the pieces need to consider that. As we come to final assembly there must be a plan, because it would be easy to "paint yourself into a corner" especially when you aren't quite sure where all the corners will be when you get to that point. To do this I make use of clamps and temporary fasteners so that I can build and fit all the parts in subcomponents, and then join them in an orderly fashion once I figure out where the most inaccessible corner is and start to work out from there. . |

The spacer is test fit into the spot between arm and flag. |
Above: Vice grip c clamps were used to hold the pieces together during initial assembly as we needed to move things around to find the point where the parts mated and the lines faired best. I then drill holes and put removable Cleco fasteners in place. These will enable me to take it apart and put it back together in exactly the same position. |

Next
we will make a missing flag part and fit it onto the piece. |
